Movie Night

Every 3rd Friday of the month, precisely at closing time (7:00) we rev up the high end surround sound system in The Big Room and put on a favorite classic concert dvd, sit back, and be inspired in the company of friends. That would be you.

Steve hates watching TV alone. Even if he's out of town on a gig we do it anyway because it so much fun! (and we don't have to listen to him share his insight and reflection on what you just saw). If Steve's here we'll probably show something like Talking Head's, "Stop MakingSense", Paul McCartney's latest concert, James Taylor or something like that. If Stefanie's around it may be Ozzy Osborn's "Live  & Loud", or if Wyatt's in charge... Lord only knows what you might see. Hopefully it will be G-Rated.

Everyone's invited, or at least the first 20 people or so. Bring your favorite low-back chair, security blanket, be-boe (pillow) or beanbag chair.

Schedule

January 22 - No Movie night this month  :(

December 18th  - Keys To Ascension - YES
Yes reformed for this performance in their most celebrated line-up--Jon Anderson (now a Central Coast local), Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman and Alan White--and this reunion has been greeted with anticipation by millions of fans worldwide. Keys to Ascension was recorded in March 1996 during a series of brilliantly staged live concerts at our own Freemont Theatre here in San Luis Obispo. The band gelled magnificently and "Keys to Ascension" proves that all the magic was still there--great vision, stunning technical ability, incredible improvisational skills and imaginative presentation of ideas...timeless Yes music. Songs: Siberian Khatru, Close to the Edge, I've Seen All Good People, Time and a Word, And You and I, The Revealing Science of God, Going for the One, Turn of the Century, America, Onward, Awaken, Roundabout, Starship Trooper. 147 minutes.

November 18th  - The Concert For Bangladesh by George Harison, with Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Leon Russel, and more.

A film about the first benefit rock concert when major musicians performed to raise relief funds for the poor of Bangladesh.

October 21st  - The Space Within by Paul McCartney
Largely filmed at a performance in San Jose, CA, this is an extremely well-filmed document of Paul McCartney's late-2005 U.S. tour, using more than 25 high-definition cameras and 5.1 digital Surround Sound. You'd be hard-pressed to complain about not getting your money's worth, as it includes almost two hours of material.

September 16th, our premier Movie Night! - Stop Making Sense by Talking Heads
This is the one with David Byrne in the BIG SUIT.  A 1984 concert music film classic hailed by movie critics everywhere.

"Very well-received by critics, maintaining a 97% "fresh" score at Rotten Tomatoes, it won the National Society of Film Critics Award for best documentary in 1984." - the internet (it must be true)

Rolling Stone Magazine called it the "greatest concert movie ever".

Steve says it's his favorite concert movie ever. That's why he's showing it.

"The important matter is that Stop Making Sense is one of the finest concert films ever made, a nearly perfect blend of musical innovation, passionate performance, and cinematic brilliance." -Ken Shane, New Music Editor for Popdose

We chose it because we love it and want to share it with you. David Byrne is a performance artist you won't want to take you eyes off of. It's fully creative and representative of what MUSIC MOTIVE is all about; creativity, inspiration, and MUSIC!
